Job Title: Hydrovac Operator
Wage: $32-$35 per hour (Based on Experience)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Field Supervisor
Work Site: Des Moines, IA
Job Summary:
The Hydrovac Operator is responsible for executing hydro excavation processes to ensure the safe and efficient removal of soil, debris, and other materials. This role involves operating Hydrovac trucks and related equipment, supervising laborers, and ensuring projects are completed in a safe and timely manner. The Hydrovac Operator will work in various outdoor conditions and must adhere to all safety protocols and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate Hydrovac Truck: Safely drive and operate the Hydrovac truck, which uses high-pressure water to break up soil and a vacuum system to remove the material.
Excavation: Use the Hydrovac system to expose underground utilities, pipelines, and other structures without causing damage. This includes potholing and trenching tasks.
Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance and cleaning on the Hydrovac truck and equipment, ensuring proper functioning.
Site Safety: Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols, including proper handling of hazardous materials and ensuring a safe work environment for the crew and the public.
Monitor Equipment: Regularly check equipment during operations for performance issues and troubleshooting when necessary.
Job Site Preparation: Set up traffic control, barriers, or signage at the job site as needed, ensuring a safe and organized work area.
Documentation: Keep accurate records of the job site, daily work activities, and any issues encountered.
Customer Interaction: Communicate with clients and other team members to ensure job specifications and timelines are met.
Qualifications:
Licensing: Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the necessary endorsements (Class A or B, depending on truck size, with Tanker Endorsement and Manual Endorsement) with a clean driving record.
Time Management: Strong time management is essential to ensure efficient project completion. Must be able to show up at jobsites on time.
Communication Skills: Effective communication skills to collaborate within a team environment.
Drug Screening and Background Check: Must be able to pass a background check and initial drug screening, along with random drug screening.
Work Environment:
Work is primarily outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and a challenging environment.
Frequent travel to and from job sites is required, which may include long hours or secluded work environments.
Extended hours, weekend shifts, and occasional on-call duties may be necessary depending on project requirements.
